Each player can choose one religion, and its influence immediately spreads to their starting province, where the corresponding religion token must be placed. The token can be placed on any hex of the province, preferably where the fewest objects are.
During the development phase, you can spread your religion to neighboring provinces. Once your religion is spread in a province, a religious community is formed under your control. A religious community encompasses the entire province that follows a particular religion.
In the achievement phase each of your religious communities will bring you Glory and tithe. At the same time, your religious community in a foreign province controlled by your opponent will reduce their tax income and Glory.
Religion simplifies the conversion of enemy units and provides unique features described in the Appendix.
Many cultural achievements are associated with the spread of religion, making it one of the paths to victory.
The game offers four basic religions to choose from:
If you are the only player with a particular religion, you control all its religious communities in every province where it has spread.
When multiple players share the same religion, control of each religious community is determined by the following priority:
The controlling player receives Glory and tithe from the religious community, and it counts toward their cultural achievements.
